Families who join The Oaks will be joining generations of Santa Barbara families who chose to participate in a cooperative school, with the goals of learning more about child development and parenting, becoming a part of a nurturing and supportive community, and having a hand in creating a responsive and stimulating learning environment for their preschool children.

PARENT PARTICIPATION

Central to our program is the notion that parents are a child’s first teachers. Under the guidance of early childhood educators, Oaks parents work and learn how to be more effective parents -- from each other and the children. Learn more about parent participation.

OUR PROGRAMS

Admission starts at age 2 years 6 months

MORNING PROGRAM
Monday - Friday
8:45 AM to 12:00 PM

AFTERNOON PROGRAM
Monday - Friday
12:00 PM to 4:30 PM

MORNING PROGRAM

Open to ages of 2-1/2 to 5. Our program is student-led. Our work day parents set up stations and the students are free to choose what they are interested in exploring that day. We find value in mixed age education. We have a wonderful outdoor classroom that provides children with space for large motor activities. What is a typical day in our morning program?

AFTERNOON PROGRAM

Our afternoon program runs in complement to our morning program to provide seamless, full-day care for families in our warm and nurturing environment. The afternoon program supports a smaller group of children, accompanied by a head teacher and assistant teacher.
