Cooperative Participation

As a cooperative member of our parent child workshop, one parent from each family must participate at The Oaks one morning a week, on a morning determined in the late summer after parents have had a chance to submit their work day preferences. The day of the week that you choose with the Director is considered your morning Participation Day.

In addition to working at The Oaks on your morning Participation Day (the laboratory portion of the SBCC-Continuing Education Parenting Class), one parent from your family must attend the weekly Wednesday evening Parent Education Class (the lecture portion of the SBCC-Continuing Education Parenting Class) from 7:00 PM until 9:30 PM. In general, the parent who works on the morning Participation Day also attends the evening Parent Education Classes.

In addition to working on your Participation Day and attending the weekly Parent Education Classes, your family will also be responsible for the following:

  1. Participate in a Focus Group, that will focus on some aspect of The Oaks program (e.g., the learning environment, the curriculum, family experiences, or other aspects of the program). The Focus Group work averages approximately one hour a week;
  2. Attend one Saturday morning Learning Environment Workshop. Your family will be able to choose between two possible Saturday dates – one scheduled in the fall and one scheduled in the spring; and
  3. Attend the annual auction and participate in the production thereof.

The Oaks program operates Monday through Friday from 8:45 AM until 12:00 PM. Children must be 2 years and 6 months of age by September 1st of the year of their enrollment. Children may not enroll at The Oaks if they will turn the age of 6 during the school year.

At registration, children who are less than 3 years old may enroll for 2 mornings per week. Children who are 3 years may enroll for 3 mornings a week. Children who are 4 or 5 years old may enroll for no more than 4 mornings a week. The actual days your child attends The Oaks is determined in consultation with the Director.

We are looking forward to getting to know your family. We think you will find The Oaks to be a special, warm and caring place for both you and your children.
